An insight into why hair turns grey and its association with ageing

One strand of grey hair can get you depressed and you begin to make plans to hide that one particular strand. And then you begin to wonder what to do if your hair greys totally. The scary thought will make you think about its causes. You will start blaming your spouse, your family, friends who have given you enough amount of stress that can cause you to get that one grey hair strand you so did not wish for. Before resorting to dyeing or using grey hair pills for men, you may find it helpful to know the real reason behind greying hair.

Firstly, hair does not turn grey; it merely stops turning the colour of your hair. It will be surprising for you to know that by default all hair is white. It is the melanin which causes darkening of hair and gives it the colour it has.  Melanin is present in melanocytes, which are present near the skin surface. Melanocytes inject melanin into keratin containing cells. Keratin forms the basic structure of our hair, skin and nails. After a point of time, melanocytes are naturally designed to reduce and eventually stop producing melanin. This results in hair growing colourless. When this process occurs can vary from individual to individual depending on various factors. While some people see their hair greying after 40s, some see greying as early as their 20s! Exposure to toxins and chemicals, pollution and other environmental factors contribute to premature greying of hair. Harsh salon treatments and habits such as smoking can cause premature ageing of hair and skin.

Copper deficiency is also known to cause greying of hair. Copper-rich foods such as spinach, nuts, and turnips could be included in your diet to reverse greying hair. Apart from these modifications, you can even take grey hair pills such as Foligain Anti Gray. Foligain for men is formulated to stimulate dead pigment cells and is devoid of any chemical substance that can cause harm to your hair. The ingredients work to tackle toxin in hair while providing required nutrients to your hair.
